Summary
Responsible for safe removal of debris from the waters of the Cleveland Harbor District. Principal operator of mini excavator on board Flotsam & Jetsam. Safely scoops and lifts floating debris out of water and places load in trash receptacles on-board sister vessel. Functions include moving floating debris using tools, tending to dock lines and docking, assisting in the movement of debris from vessels to onshore disposal dumpsters.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Operate mini excavators’ onboard vessels. Safely scoop and lift floating debris out of water and place load in trash receptacles on-board vessels.
● Assist with movement of debris from vessels to onshore disposal dumpsters.
● Conducts operational and routine maintenance requirements for Vessel systems (including mechanicals, fueling and safety).
● Follow maintenance schedules for PHASTAR’s vessels and maritime equipment.
● Knowledgeable about the functions and operations of all mechanized equipment (engines, pumps, etc.) on or in the vessels.
● Ensure fluid and grease requirements on equipment.
● Knowledgeable about basic underway damage control procedures.
● Assures adequate on-hand supplies and materials are available and correctly stored.
● Participate in a Risk Assessment prior to getting underway
● Wear provided personal protective equipment (PPE)
● Provide underway seamanship mentoring for student crew members.
● Participate in various shoreside programming instruction.
● Maintains a positive relationship with Davis Aerospace and Maritime High School staff and students.
● Performs other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary by PHASTAR Director of Operations.

● Education and/or Experience – High school diploma or general education degree (GED); 6 months experience in the maritime field.
● Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents/reports. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
● Computer Skills – To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in personal computer skills including electronic mail.
● Other Qualifications: DOT Drug Testing.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the individual must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time while operating their computer and performing office work. The individual needs to occasionally move about inside the office. They constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, fax machine, and computer printer. They must be able to exchange accurate information with customers and others in the office while interacting. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 15 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The individual must be capable of reviewing their work for errors and adjust as necessary.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this Job, the individual is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Individuals will wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required. During warmer months the required PPE may cause the employee to be very warm while working. The individual may be exposed to wet and/or humid work environments.
Compensation:
$20/Hour
