Summary

As the water rescue swimmer you will work aboard marine safety and training vessels, assists in training and mentoring maritime high school students, responds to on-water emergencies, provides medical treatment and performs water rescues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinates professional response to On-Water Emergencies and persons in the water (PIW).
  • Provides competent, compassionate, and timely emergency medical treatment while aboard Argonaut vessels and shore-based events.
  • Ensures all rescue equipment, medical equipment and supplies are in working order aboard assigned vessels or at events. Provides instruction and guidance to assigned Argonaut vessels crew and maritime personnel.
  • Serve as Mentor and Role Model to Maritime High School Students employed aboard Argonaut vessels.
  • Acts as liaison to local medical personnel and is responsible for providing complete and accurate logbooks, reports, statements, and evidence to document an incident or injury when required.
  • Ensures all assigned Argonaut vessel maritime personnel including but not limited to employees, volunteers and students meet all statutory medical requirements.
  • Attends classes, training, meetings, and events to represent Argonaut when required.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary or as assigned.

  • Education/Certifications – Valid State of Ohio Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic certification required with current American Health Association/American Red Cross Basic Life Support Certificate. Previous Certification as a Lifeguard or Water Rescue Technician. Successful Completion of Argonaut USLA ARRT Training and Testing. Requested to obtain an Ohio Boating Education Course (OBEC) certification.
  • Language Skills – Ability to read and interpret documents/reports. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before large groups.
  • Computer Skills – To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Health and Fitness – Argonaut requires that a medical or osteopathic physician document that all rescuer swimmers possess adequate vision, hearing acuity, physical ability and stamina to perform the duties of an open water aquatic rescuer.
  • Aquatic Rescue Training – All rescuer swimmers are certified by successfully completing a Argonaut-USLA Open Water Lifesaving course consisting of not less forty-six hours. This does not include the crew member orientation training for Argonaut vessels.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the individual is to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time while operating Argonaut vessels. The individual needs to move about on the boat or at the marina or dock to transport or treat individuals and other necessary duties. Most of the activities involve fine and gross manipulation of items. Must maintain good physical condition, being able to swim 550 yards in less than 10 minutes and pass Argonaut Rescue Swimmer Test Annually. They must regularly lift, push, pull, and/or move items in excess of 100 pounds. The individual must be capable of carrying and loading different equipment required to do the job.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is constantly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Will wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required. During warmer months the required PPE may cause the employee to be very warm while working. The individual may be exposed to wet and/or humid work environments.
